SMA Negeri (SMAN) Modal Bangsa is a premier boarding school in Aceh established in 1994 under the regional government through the Regional Office of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kanwil Depdikbud) of the Special Region of Aceh (now Aceh). The presence of this school is part of the effort to improve the quality of human resources in Aceh through education oriented towards academic achievement, character, and leadership.
In the early years of its establishment, teaching and learning activities were conducted in Lampeuneurut until July 1997. Entering the 1997-1998 academic year, which was the fourth cohort, all educational activities were moved to the new campus in Meulayo, Kuta Baro District, Aceh Besar Regency. The campus stands on a beautiful and strategic hill, about 12.5 kilometers from the center of Banda Aceh City, with a land area of seven hectares.
Currently, SMAN Modal Bangsa is located on Jalan Bandara Sultan Iskandar Muda, Cot Geundreut, Blang Bintang District, Aceh Besar Regency. The school is managed by the Government of Aceh and is known as an educational institution that combines an excellent education system with boarding life. A conducive learning environment allows students to receive comprehensive guidance, both in academic aspects and character development.
As a flagship school, SMAN Modal Bangsa not only organizes regular education programs, but also various special programs designed to shape students into a generation that is faithful, knowledgeable, characterized, and ready to face future challenges.
SMAN Modal Bangsa was officially established under the Regional Government through the Kanwil Depdikbud of the Special Region of Aceh.
